Check out this beauty!

Today we visited Australia Zoo - "Home of the Crocodile Hunter" -, which is just an hours drive from Brisbane. Unfortunately, the master himself did not show up, but we nevertheless enjoyed a full day of cuddling, petting, hugging, and snuggling. Crikey!!!

The rival blog

If you wanna know how Brisbane feels like when living in a splendid house, with a breathtaking view and a pool (yes, a swimming pool!), visit Jack's blog. Jack is from Birmingham too, but here in Brisbane he goes to the University of Queensland at the other end of the city.

Particularly after the beginning of september the blog should be a good laugh. The house doesn't have fly screens, and when it gets hot and sticky Jack will encounter loads of creepy creatures.

Wildlife on campus (1)

I can't believe the kookaburra (number four in my top5 of cuddly Aussie animals!!!) can be spotted here on campus. Well, actually they are not that cuddly...

Moving to the bush

After three soul-destroying days of house hunting we finally decided to move into uni accomodation on campus. Houses were either only available for a minimum of six months or incredibly filthy. We believe that in one house there was a decomposing body hidden under a blanket in one of the beds. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures, but you can have a look both here and here to get an idea.

Campus is miles from anywhere, and the last bus from the city runs at around 11 pm. However, a cab is only 30 Dollars (18 Euros, 12 Pounds), which is a fair price if split among a few people.

Campus is situated on a wooded mountain to the South of Brisbane. The buildings definitely devoured a lot of concrete, and they boast with the same beauty and extravaganza as all universities built in the 1960s and 70s - such as Wuppertal or Essex. Yet, the many trees, the tropical plants, and the exotic birds give it a really nice touch.

I am sharing a flat with three other students: A Norwegian bloke, a French girl, and a Malaysian girl. My room is three times the size of my room back in Birmingham, and there is internet and telly - so, what elso do I need?

Landed!

Sadly, neither German housewife voodoo nor science were able to predict the 2006 World Cup winner. Nevertheless, my body's production of endorphins has reached quarter-final levels again, as after 28 hours of flight I landed in Brisbane yesterday morning. For all of you who wonder where Brisbane is:

I haven't seen much of the city yet. Totally knackered by the long flight, I hurled into house hunting yesterday, but when I felt awfully dizzy, and stopped hearing on my left ear I decided to call it a day and go back to the hostel to have a nap. As it turns out, it will be really difficult to find a furnished place for four months only. Fingers crossed!

My first priority is on finding a place to live, as soon as I did that I will upload a few pictures. Cheerio!
